Zhiqi ‘Hastings’ Su is a New York based musician: a producer, songwriter, composer and audio engineer. He is also a guitarist and bassist. He obtained a BA in Chinese Literature at Peking University in 2023, where he started to grow into an inclusive and well-rounded artist. He was not only practically trained as a mixer for band lives, he also collaborated with different musicians and gained understanding of all genres. Later, he developed great interest in writing his own music, as he felt music could convey much more things than words.

He learnt jazz guitar from Junyi Liang, Zeran Chen and George Grydkovets and he loves jamming. Now he is also a guitarist of Contemporary Vocal Ensemble from New York University. But among all he loves j-pop most, and this is also where he put his most efforts. He loves the rhythmic grooves and delicate arrangements in them, and he is always impressed by the creativity of Japan musicians, from those focusing on experimental electronics to those pop stars.

Yes, creativity and meticulousness can best describe his working personality… He loves to discover, to innovate, and to feel—wholeheartedly.

And he has a bad sense of humor… NOT TOO BAD.

Now he focuses more on film scoring, as he feels great in polishing his work as an auxiliary component of a bigger artistic project. He likes the way his music interacts with visual beauties, with acting, and with other artists’ dreams. You can check out his works to see whether his ideas resonate with you!
